Review: Apocalypto
Hello everyone,
I hope you enjoyed my last review (The Queen). If not - then I'm sorry to report that here is another one - this time for Mel Gibson's Apocalypto.
When I posted this a couple of minutes ago I wanted to re-write it because of things some of my friends said last weekend. We had a movie weekend and one of my friends had seen Apocalypto even though she didn't want to. And I was quite interested to find out what she thought of the film.
Turns out she found it rather silly and ridiculous, which I have to say totally suprised me. Not because her and me usually like the same films, but because I could not understand what was ridiculous about this particular film. The things she said didn't make any real sense to me, but quite to my surprise I also couldn't come up with a really good defense for the film.
So I re-read my review trying to cleanse it of any exaggeration I had made about the film, but I couldn't find any. Re-reading it I absolutely agreed with what I had written earlier. So I guess what it all comes down to is a truth we all know, but sometimes forget - people like different things. What is absolutely brilliant for one can be utter BS for someone else. And yet both of them can find something that they totally agree on as well. Fascinating creatures - are we not?!
